A product of the midwest, Austin Lim has lived in Cleveland, St. Louis, Kentucky and Indiana before finally settling down in Chicago. He was first introduced to dance through traditional Filipino dances, and not long after discovered a love for hip-hop choreography through performing and competing with Fusion Dance Company in Evanston and Impulse Dance Troupe in Gurnee. As a former dancer and choreographer for the Chicago based professional hip hop dance company C.O.D.A. for three years, Austin has grown into a versatile dancer and creative choreographer. Inspired by his large variety of musical tastes, his unique sense of rhythm and musicality is evident in all of his choreography. His pieces can be seen at various C.O.D.A. company classes, as well as in previous C.O.D.A. performances including Hype, the One, Prelude Midwest, and the Best of Dance Chicago show. He has taught hip hop workshops around the Chicagoland area and the midwest, including classes at Northwestern University, Loyola University, University of Chicago, Northern Illinois University, Purdue, UIUC, and at the University of Michigan. Additionally, he was an assistant teacher for Oprah’s 24th Season Block Party flash mob, has performed for KISS-FM’s Fantabuloso 2010 and 2011 alongside recording artists Ludacris, Pitbull, Lupe Fiasco, Ke$ha and Trey Songz, and has also opened for Fat Joe and Bruno Mars at the House of Blues. He has also choreographed a flashmob for the National Restaurant Association Restaurant Hotel-Motel Show to be performed by celebrity pastry chef Gale Gand. Most recently, he danced in various parades across Shanghai and Luoyang, China, performing before the President of China. Currently, he is a member of the Puzzle League, Work in Progress, and the Mantastic Voyage. He is faculty at the Norris University Center in Evanston, Illinois as well as at Pro Dance Elite in Algonquin. Starting his journey into hip-hop as a choreographer before seriously training as a dancer, he loves sharing choreography and teaching.
